So today seems to be starting on a good note, less rain in the forecast and the weekend looking good before the next storm on Monday. With stormy skies that brings some interesting picture taking moments. Hopefully I'll be able to capture a few today. We'll see. Stay posted.

Photography is Everywhere
Originally uploaded by olasisucsd

For everyone who loves photography. Today my suggestion is to go out and photograph someone, something, whatever you want. Go out for 30 minutes, 1 hours, your lunch break. Just go out and enjoy for those precious. See what you take and then post the pictures, either on your blog, facebook, flickr, any means. Show what your day is like. For me photography is a creative outlet that lets me grow and learn who I am.

I shot this picture about 2 weeks ago. See how many photography sessions you can spot in this picture. Photography opportunities are everywhere so harness it.

San Diego Bay Fair 08

So after almost 3 weeks of not shooting a thing I come back with 1601 shots of the San Diego Bay Fair. The majority of the shots where of the boats on the water. I really felt that I finally got a hand on using the 40D. Here are some other shots that I took when I was there:

Photoshelter Collection is Closing

So after one day, they are closing. Just my luck! I guess this will be a minor setback since I've only joined recently. This is what I got from them today in my e-mail:

"Dear Friends,

We're contacting you today with some unfortunate news - we will be closing The PhotoShelter Collection, effective October 10, 2008. Going forward, our team will refocus heavily on enhancing our original product, The PhotoShelter Personal Archive, which several thousand photographers use for bulletproof storage and online image sales directly to their own clients. Our financial position remains solid and we look forward to working with the photography community for years to come.

More details about timing and the implications for contributors can be found in a personal statement on our corporate blog, and this FAQ document.

Just one year ago, we started the Collection with a mission to "change the image marketplace for good." Since then, we've amassed a remarkable global community. We've built a unique position in the industry fueled by integrity and a true passion for photography. We've held our commitment to fair treatment of photographers with a 70/30 split of every transaction, opened up your access to information through our School of Stock and symposium events, and gave every photographer - regardless of one's network, location, or level of expertise - a fair shot at selling your work to the industry's top buyers.

However, our approach was insufficient to change buyer behavior on a grand scale and generate revenues quickly enough to satisfy our goals for this product line. While image buyers worldwide appreciated our new approach, the size of our image selection and the incumbent player's entrenched subscription relationships were a persistent challenge. As a result, we saw few strategic options for the Collection that would allow us to stay true to our commitment to a better deal for photographers and our desire to change the industry.

Despite today's decision, we remain committed to using technology to advance both the art and business of photography. Our team's energy and innovative resources will ensure that the Personal Archive remains the best online solution to help independent photographers write their own success stories. If you are not yet a Personal Archive subscriber, we hope you will continue your relationship with the PhotoShelter community through that product.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to our global community of contributors. We've enjoyed a full year of seeing your exceptional images cross our desks, developed warm relationships with many of you through PhotoShelter events, and shared in your excitement when you've achieved sales through our marketplace.

We're looking forward to chatting more with you in person and demonstrating some new Personal Archive enhancements at October's PhotoPlus International Conference.

With gratitude,

Allen Murabayashi

CEO "

So I guess I'll have to look else where.

Plus today I was somewhat demoralized by watching some of photoshelter's podcast. I got a lot of mixed messages from watching so I really don't know at the moment. So I get I'll have to start asking friends to be some of my subjects for photos to help build my photography portfolio. But first I need to get some new equipment.

Photoshelter

I found out today that I got accepted into the Photoshelter community. So now I got into the business of stock photography!!! Yah. Here's my first photo that got accepted:

A Little Sump In Photography

So lately I've been in a sump with taking pictures. It's been about a week and a half since I've last taken photos. I know it may be a stupid thought but I've haven't had much time to take photo. I think the problem is that I've haven't been inspired lately. It seems to me that I've discovered all the easily accessible places in San Diego ( I mean just check out my flickr map of San Diego, it's packed). I think i need to explore more of the East County and make a few more trip out to the Borrego Springs and Imperial Valley. Hopefully I'll get out of this sump and find some inspiration. I think is also because I've been researching a lot about off camera flash photography. Check out these two websites that I've been checking out.

Mystery Dinner Theater

Today my friend Jen celebrated her birthday at the Mystery Cafe in San Diego. What an awesome show and production. The show included a four course meal, great entertainment, and simply one of the best times of your life. For more information check it out at http://www.mysterycafe.net .

On top of that, I was also ask to provide some of the photos I took of the show to the actors / production crew. So I'll be processing them and hopefully get them to them by Tuesday. I hoping that this could open some doors. Stay tune for the pictures.

Photography Memoirs

Hello, my name is Oliver Asis. I'm an avid photographer. I decided to start this blog because I wanted to share my photography adventures. Photography for me has been a great outlet for creativity. So I wanted to share my passion for photos and my passion for exploration. So if you reading this drop me a line at olasis@gmail.com and check out my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/olasis.
