Timelapse Techiques

When I'm not shooting weddings, events, or portraits on my personal time I enjoy shooting landscapes. One of the ways that I like to photograph a landscape is to make a timelapse of the places I visit. Here are some pics of how I shoot my landscape timelapses:

Setup @ Desert View

Timelapse samples and some directions:

A short timelapse that I made while on my Thanksgiving visit to Grand Canyon National Park. I made these timelapses at "The Abyss," "Hermits Rest," and "Desert View."

To make these timelapses, I took about 15 minutes sessions with my Canon 40D to take a pic every 5 seconds.

And here is the setup shot and description on this one:
The Camera Mount

Music: Machination Kevin Macleod (http://incompetech.com/)

Shooting Details:
Canon 40D
0.8" exposure @ 5 secs
ISO 200
f3.5
568 images

So this a driving timelaspe I made while testing my recently purchased camera mount that I bought at a photo expo. The mount is called the Fat Gecko from Delkin. It's a mount that uses suction to attach to smooth surfaces. So I wanted to see how well it would handle during normal driving conditions. So this is the result of the test.

I took this timelapse during my drive to pick up family dinner. In the middle of the movie you will see my arms / steering wheel go crazy because I couldn't get into the parking spot so I have to maneuver multiple times to get into the spot (San Diego has some of the smallest parking spots, grrr)

Grand Canyon National Park

I was lucky enought to visit one more National Park this year. Over thanksgiving weekend I visited Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. What a site to see with your own eyes. For sure it is a place that I want to explore more. Since I only had a short weekend stay there I only got to explore the South Rim, Grand Canyon Village, and Desert View. But even with the short amount of time I spent there I managed to take some pics of the national park. Maybe next year, I will do the Grand Circle Tour of the Southwest National parks and monuments. I also visited two national monuments while I was there as well, Sunset Crater & Wupatki National monunments. Those pics will be posted soon. For all of the other Grand Canyon pictures and a timelapse movie of the canyon check them out here at the following link:

I hope you like them. Please forward if you feel like sharing them with others.

Super Busy!!!

Hey Guys! I know its been awhile since I posted to the blog and to flickr. But work and photography work has been very busy these past few months. Here's some ideas of what's been going on in life:
1) new department transfer
2) potential client meetings (at least once a week or so)
3) processing pass wedding, event, & portraits.
4) computer meltdown (i think I finally fixed the issues)
5) trying to figure out prices for the photography
6) designing, working out, and researching things for the photography website.
7) trying to still have a social life ( i hangout with friends and in the middle I meet with a client, bad or good? I'm just happy to have very understanding friends)
8) trying to organize the other parts of my life. (ie desk clean up, cloths, car, etc.)
9) trying to balance the friends, family, and work life.
So as you can see, life has been hectic. I hoping that the work load will subside for a bit to take some personal time to work on personal projects. And hopefully I will post some new stuff soon. Well until next time, take it easy, and happy photographing your world. Cheers
-Oliver

Kristine & Nick's Engagment Party

On August 15, I had an opportunity to photograph my friend Kristine's engagment party. I had such a blast capturing the party and all of the events that took place. I really love to photograph events and try to tell the story through the images. It was great to see that she was happy with the outcome of the pictures. For her party I wanted to show the intimate setting and love that was in the air from all of her family and friends. I will post some soon.

Changing of Blog Names and Appreciation

So I finally made the move and change my blog name to Oliver Asis Photograph from Photography Memoirs. This was due to to the fact that I need to brand myself and take ownership of my work and anything associated with it. I love being creative and I like sharing it with others whether it is giving advice, having a photo outing, or sharing random photography atricles that I find via twitter.
So far I've been lucky that I have friends that have given me the opportunity to experiment and gain experience (thanks to Michelle, Kristine, Ana, Triana, and countless others out there). I appreciate everything and I owe you my thanks.

PS. I have decided to postpone posting new pics until after I finish shooting my friends wedding this Saturday.

Today, I start uploading a select few of the photos that I took on my vacation to Yellowstone in early July. This particular photo was taken with my 10-22mm lens and post processed using a Gradient Neutral Density filter to help the sky pop. I was amazed at how the clouds look that day in Yellowstone, so I wanted the emphasis the clouds in the landscape. If you look closer you will Old Faithful going off (bottom left) and the Old Faithful Inn (bottom right). Yellowstone is truly an aw-inspiring place to visit. Everyone should visit this national park once in their life. And when you visit go through it at your own pace and take in everything. It nice to just sit, listen to the wind and silence, and reflect on your life.

After about a couple of weeks processing photos from my travels I've finally seen a light at the end of the tunnel. Soon I will be complete with all the travel photos and now I can look forward to some new photography events coming up for me.

This photo was taken on the last day of my Yellowstone / Grand Tetons trip with friends. I will post pics from both Yellowstone and Grand Tetons soon. I will have to look through which ones I will post because I want to use the images to make into a book. And showcase a sample of the images here. Please stay tune for updates.

Thanks to all that follow me or take a look at my photostream here. Please feel free to leave comments, critiques, or thoughts. Let's start a conversation.

Happy Shooting!

So it's been awhile since i last posted some pics to my flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/olasis). That's because working in front of the computer for 8 hours a day at work and then countless more after work for photos has taken a little toll on me. So instead of sitting in front of the computer i've taken a break from time to time to meet up with photo friends to share experiences. Such experience have taken me to far place (well two hours away) to capture stars at night, take photos in 104 degree weather, and reflect on some photography masters (Andsel Adams at SD MOPA). So photography for me is still in full bloom just in other ways. I'm at least happy to say that i'm finally almost done with the Yellowstone portion of my trip and heading south to Grand Tetons National Park portion of my photos. Its been great looking back at the pictures and remember the aww inspiring landscape that is Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Hopefully soon I will finish with those photos and begin the books that I have planned for them. So until then. Keep checking back to see if I posted the pictures. Best Wishes and happy photo taking.

San Diego County Fair 2009 Photoset

Finally finish working on the 2009 San Diego County Fair pics. A lot of these shots where done hand-held. It was my experimentation of how well i could adapt to the lighting conditions. It would have been great to have a full-on tripod but fair restrictions to allow for any. Hopefully next year I will remember to enter the photo contest and just maybe you might see one of these photos on exhibit next year. This year's fair was tons of fun!!! Stay tuned for some fair pics from the Orange County Fair.

It was nice to discover and slowly go through the park given the time we had there. In addition to Yosemite, we also had an opportunity to visit Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes, the Ancient Bristlecone Forest (White Mountains), Alabama Hills, and Whitney Portal. This set of images chronicals our weekend trip.

A Wedding Shoot...well kind of.

So on Saturday, I shot my first wedding...well kind of. I did another shoot for Premier Catering and the event I got and called to shoot was a wedding ceremony anreception setup. Although I wasn't the primary photographer for the wedding itself, it did allow me to experience what it takes to shoot a wedding. I'm happy my friend Michelle called me and gave me an opportunity to shoot it because i did learn. Hopefully soon I will get more wedding opportunities. I actually did book my first wedding in August for which I'm excited to shoot. And before that I have an engagement party to shoot. So hopefully more jobs to come. And this coming Thursday I have another exciting job to shoot.

Photos to come and will be posted on my flickr account:

Photography Update

So this pass weekend was another photo weekend for me. I started out my weekend by going to deserts of San Diego (Anza-Borrego) followed by a quick visit to the Salton Sea. Luckily I went before the heat got "extreme" because the next day it got really hot out there.
Later in the afternoon I shot another event for the Del Mar Catering company that I've been shooting for a couple of months. This would be my 5th event to shoot for them. And this one was a good one to practice and shoot for. My original task was to make a timelapse of the set-up however set-up was done earlier in the day so I had to think of what do to do at the point. There was a moment of nervousness and thinking so i go or should I stay. In the end I decided to stay because this is just another opportunity waiting. So I shot the photos and got to enjoy the show as well.
Then on Sunday, I had an early morning trip up the coast to Carlsbad and drove back home via San Diego's Coast Highway 101 and made a stop at the Cedros Design District so my mom could buy some wind chimes. While my mom was doing that I walked around and took a few pics before heading home.
After heading home and getting some rest for bit. I headed out with my friend to look for photo opts in the east county once again except this time it would be a drive up the State Route 79 towards Julian. I was hoping to find some wildflowers up there but didn't find any however I got a nice few of the desert from the vista point up there. Afterward we decided to head to Torrey Pines State Reserve to see the sunset. And we did.
So that's one of my photo weekends in a nutshell. Photos and a timelapse from this weekend will be posted soon. Other photos from different shoots will also be posted shortly.

More Photo News

So this weekend is going to be one of the craziest that I've attempted in awhile. First off, today I went to LA to do an errand and then headed back to SD to do a quick photo shoot however it didn't turn out the way I wanted it. Oh well you learn from your mistakes or hiccups. Then tomorrow, Saturday, I have a cool tour of the Walt Disney Concert Hall so I think I'll get some pictures there. Stay posted with that. Then later that evening I have a photo shoot for an event. So that will be exciting. Photos to come from that in about 1.5 weeks from tomorrow. Then Sunday I will be trekking back to LA / Orange County area to drop my sister, then maybe (weather depending) make a short photo trip of the drive. Then later in the after watch one of my buddies play basketball and take some sports action shots and then head home. Then rest up for work on Monday morning. So definitely a busy weekend but filled with tons of photo opts. All pictures from this weekend will be posted as a soon as they are process. Stay tuned via Twitter or Facebook. Best Wishes.

New Photography Happenings

So photography has taken a good turn. I've done two event shoots and possibly planning to do another one soon. Also I've booked my first Wedding for a friend. So things in my photography world has been busy. So currently I'm processing photos after photos after photos. Although its busy, I'm really happy to be working on these photos. So I'm hoping that there will be more in store for me in photography.
